About Stainless Steel 316
Grade 316 adds molybdenum to the 304 recipe, which buys it resistance to chloride corrosion. It is the marine and chemical grade — boat fittings, pool handrail, coastal balustrade, food and pharmaceutical plant, and anything specified for a salt environment.
It pays more than 304 because of the molybdenum content, so it is worth keeping separate if you know what you have. If you do not, bring it unsorted: the two are visually identical and we test rather than guess.
As with 304, remove steel fixings and non-metallic attachments where practical.
