What we collect through this website
The only place this website collects personal information is the quote form on the contact page. When you submit it, we receive:
- Your name and phone number, so we can call you back with a price.
- Your email address, if you choose to give one — it is optional.
- The material you are selling, the rough amount, and your suburb.
- Whether you want to drive in, have it collected, or need a bin on site.
- Anything you write in the notes field.
- Any photographs of the load you choose to attach — optional, and never required.
Photographs are resized in your own browser before they are sent, which also removes the embedded metadata a phone camera adds — including the GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken. We receive the picture, not the location it was shot at.
Those details are emailed straight to the yard so someone can respond. We do not sell them, rent them, or pass them to anyone outside the business.
WhatsApp, SMS and phone
The WhatsApp and SMS buttons on this site do not send anything to us on their own. They open your own messaging app with a message already written, which you then choose to send or not. Once you send it, that conversation is governed by your messaging provider as well as by this policy. We use WhatsApp because this trade runs on photographs of loads, not because we want another channel.
Photo ID at the weighbridge
When you sell scrap metal to us we are required to record identification and pay by electronic transfer rather than cash. This is not our policy — it is a legal obligation under the Scrap Metal Industry Act 2016 (NSW), which exists to make stolen metal harder to move. We record what the Act requires, keep it as long as the Act requires, and use it for nothing else.
Cookies and analytics
This website runs Google Analytics 4 and the Google Ads conversion tag. Both set cookies in your browser and both are operated by Google, which has its own privacy policy that we do not control. We use them to see which pages people read and which advertisements bring in genuine enquiries, so that we are not paying for advertising that does nothing.
What is recorded is deliberately narrow: the pages you visit, taps on a phone, SMS, WhatsApp or email link, and the fact that a quote enquiry was sent along with the type of metal it was about. Nothing you type into the form is sent to Google — not your name, not your phone number, not your email address, not your notes and not your photographs. Those go only to the yard’s mailbox.
If you would rather not be counted, your browser’s privacy settings will block these tags, as will Google’s own opt-out add-on. Nothing on this site stops working if you do — the quote form, the phone numbers and the WhatsApp buttons all behave exactly the same.
Two pages also embed third-party content that may set cookies once you interact with it: the map on the contact page is served by Google Maps, and the safety film on the home page loads from YouTube only after you press play. Until you press play, no YouTube request is made.
Who else can see your information
Quote enquiries are delivered by an email service provider and stored in the business mailbox. The website itself is hosted on infrastructure operated by a third-party hosting provider. Both process data on our behalf and neither uses it for their own purposes. We may also disclose information where the law requires it — for example to NSW Police in connection with the Scrap Metal Industry Act, or to a court.
How long we keep it
Quote enquiries stay in the mailbox for as long as they are commercially useful and are deleted when they are not. Transaction and identification records are kept for the period the Scrap Metal Industry Act and our tax obligations require.
Accessing or correcting your information
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not legally required to keep it. Email the yard or call and we will deal with it. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy question, you can raise it with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information — for example if we add analytics to this website — we will update this page and change the date at the top of it.
