About Coast Brass
Coast brass is clean, unplated yellow brass free of iron, solder and heavy attachments — sheet, turnings from machining, clean cut-offs and unlacquered fittings.
It is a step above mixed brass because it needs less work at the smelter, and machine shops producing consistent brass swarf can do well on volume. Keep turnings free of steel swarf and cutting oil where you can.
If your brass has steel inserts, springs or plated finishes, it is mixed brass rather than coast, and there is no benefit to guessing — we grade it on the scales.
