About Insulated Copper Wire 40%
Around 40% recovery covers the middle of the insulated cable range — standard building flex, extension leads, light power cable and most household wiring offcuts.
This is the grade most electricians accumulate. A domestic rewire produces a surprising amount of it, and because the recovery percentage is estimated from the cable type and gauge, presenting it sorted by type rather than as one tangled mass gets you a better assessment.
If you have long clean runs of heavier cable mixed in, keep them separate — heavier cable carries more copper per kilo and grades into the 75% or 83% bands.
