No. Under the Scrap Metal Industry Act 2016, scrap metal dealers in NSW are not allowed to pay for scrap in cash. They also cannot pay with a cheque made out to cash, or in goods or services. Every registered yard in the state works the same way.

How you are paid instead

By bank transfer. At our yard, your metal is weighed and graded in front of you, and the payment is made by EFT, on site, before you leave. Bring your BSB and account number.

Why the law changed

Cash made stolen metal easy to sell and hard to trace. Payment into a bank account, together with the photo ID every dealer records, means each sale can be traced back to a person. That protects honest sellers too: a yard that follows the rules is not quietly buying stolen copper.

“Cash for scrap” signs

You will still see “cash for scrap” on some signs and ads. In NSW, a scrap metal dealer who pays cash for scrap is breaking the law.

Turn your metal into cash.

Send a photo of the load and we will price it on the grade, or drive into the yard at 8 Noonan Rd, Ingleburn and leave paid.
